A craft project finished

I finally finished the fascinator that I started on Wednesday at The Make Cafe in Christchurch. It has been a while since I have done any craft project let alone finished something.

This is what it looked like when I finished the class - and it is on the pink hat that I intend to wear with it.

The fascinator was really fun to do but I made it too big. The tutor suggested curling the petals, so I have done that all over and then I went to my treasure chest (aka button box) and found a 1960's button for the centre and glued it in.
I have a pink hat the I have put it on and it looks great, as you can see that with all my hair etc I think the fascinator does look better on a hat. All I need to do is adjust the dress and I am ready for Kerryn's wedding.

Though I have another outfit to make which the hat will go with .... but I will need to make a different fascinator for that. I am quite looking forward to improving my skills.

If you live in CHCH and you want to learn this skill The Make Cafe are running another class in a week or so.

Zakka Style

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about a challenge from The Make Cafe in Christchurch. You purchased a 1/2 metre of linen and they added a couple of off cuts and sent them in a package. You were then meant to make an item "Zakka Style". (there are lots of craft books with the Zakka name and it looks like smaller items using bits and pieces you have around. A lot of the use the base of linen)

Now this coincided nicely with two baby showers booked on my calendar. Two of my quilting buddies and good friends, are having babies and I wanted to give something made by me. Both are set up for children as this is not their first so my idea was to make something for the Mum. I will pop a couple of little gifts inside.

In order to fit the Dresden Plate design I made these ended up being very large!!!

I always link with Crazy Mum Quilts for finish it up friday.
Also posting this with Lil Pip Designs on her Spring has sprung week. I feel new babies certainly give you that spring feeling. I feel the need for some photos of little lambs!!!

Learn to use fondant icing - at the Make Cafe

Kirsty pouring cold drinks

Everyone arriving and exclaiming

The plain cupcakes to start with

More of what I finished

On Wednesday night I went to a fondant icing course - or cupcake icing course - at The Make Cafe. I had a lovely time along with 6 other women. I learnt alot. It was fun and look at how much we did in just the two hour session.

Not only did I learn a new thing but it was a real treat. Kirsty at The Make Cafe, puts incredible effort into her events with the aim to make you see it as a special time. All beautifully decorated and laid out but also lovely teas, coffee and something to nibble.

My boys were really impressed and took them to school in their lunch boxes.

An awesome baby shower

I have just come home from a fantastic baby shower for my cousin Alison. It was held at The Make Cafe in Riccarton, Christchurch. Wow did they pull out all the stops. Decorated beautifully with so many things I just cannot mention them all. Then as an activity we all made a bib. They supplied bibs and material and a cutter and we cut out various pattern, used vliesofix to iron them on and if you felt like it there was thread etc to stitch something.
Gorgeous china and three pots of different tea, coffee, slices........ What a great way to celebrate.

A gorgeous break in Rarotonga

Woo hoo, A holiday with no kids for 11 days. Bliss, relaxing and warm! BTW it was an early 20th wedding anniversary present to ourselves....
